'Red Wings for Red Kettles' returns on Friday for Salvation Army

(WXYZ) — The 14th annual "Red Wings for Red Kettles" event happening at three locations across metro Detroit. The groups compete to raise the money money in the iconic red buckets.

Alex Delvecchio and Justin Abdelkader will be with Major Timothy Meyer at Hockeytown Authentics in Troy. They will only be there for photos, no autographs.

Mike Green and Frans Nielsen will be at the Kroger in Royal Oak at 2200 E. 12 Mile.

Dennis Cholowski and head coach Jeff Blashill will be at the Kroger in Farmington Hills at 37550 W. 12 Mile.

Fans are encouraged to give a suggested $10 donation for a photo with Delvecchio, and a suggested $10 donation for autographs at the other locations. A limit of three pieces of memorabilia per fan.

It's happening at all three locations from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday.

Kettle pay will also be available for those who don't have cash, which means you can scan your mobile device to donate through Apply Pay or Google Pay.

Funds raised during the event will support The Salvation Army’s STRIVE floor hockey program.

On top of that, anyone who donates will get a 30 percent discount on any Red Wings or Pistons product between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
