(WXYZ) — Months after being originally getting its national TV debut on video on demand, "The Russian Five" documentary will once again air on TV this month.
It debuted at the 2018 Detroit Free Press Film Festival and started playing in several movie theatres across the state and eventually across the country.
NBC Sports acquired the movie and premiered it on Wednesday, Nov. 6 after the Red Wings' game against the New York Rangers on NBC Sports Network.
Set your DVRs as it will once again air on NBC Sports Network on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
The documentary showcases the Red Wings' line, dubbed "The Russian Five," and how they helped transform the Detroit Red Wings leading to the Stanley Cups in 1997, 1998 and 2002.
It was directed by metro Detroit native Josh Riehl, and will be available to order on iTunes, Amazon, Vudu, Google Play, Microsoft and Sony Playstation.
“As the home of hockey in the U.S., we are always looking for ways to further serve the sport’s passionate fan base,” said Michael Perman, VP Programming at NBC Sports, to Deadline. “The Russian Five is a perfect fit, as it documents the unconventional and dramatic way one of NHL’s most-memorable dynasties was built. Hockey fans will love this film.”
