DETROIT (WXYZ) -- During a video call with reporters Thursday, Detroit Tigers general manager Al Avila shared his thoughts on professional athletes taking a stand on racial injustice and other social issues.
"We all have to...make a stand, however we feel we best make our statement," Avila said. "And if our athletes feel that's the best place to make their statement, that's the way they want to do it, then that's fine. And we support it. Everybody has to make their decision on how to combat racism or any injustice, to tell you the truth."
Avila took his response a step further and also shared his personal opinion.
"For me, the world needs a lot more love. And I would say any kind of protest for me...anything (where) you take away violence, is the key for me. And so obviously it's a non-violent way to make a statement."
