DETROIT — Chris Ilitch was all smiles on Friday at Comerica Park, watching another important part of the Tigers rebuild sign with the team.
The Tigers chairman and CEO attended first round pick Riley Greene's press conference, and said he closely monitors the rebuilding process.
"To predict a time frame, you're asking the wrong guy. That's a better question for Al," Ilitch said.
Ilitch said it’s his job to actively monitor and make sure there’s progress in the Tigers plan. Past that, he said if there isn’t progress, then it would be time for change.
Ilitch said he is impressed with the progress and believes in Al Avila and Ron Gardenhire.
"It's going to be all the more sweeter when hopefully we are competing in the playoffs and we're competing for championships - that we've lived through this developmental phase. It's going to be a lot more fun," Ilitch said.
