Icy conditions possible for your drive home, freezing rain possible Friday morning

Posted
and last updated

Temperatures will be around 30° to 33° overnight, and a wintry mix is expected through Friday morning.

You could also see icy conditions on your drive home, especially on secondary roads and untreated surfaces that also have snow on them.

A pocket of warm air (above freezing) will be moving in over Michigan from the south tonight, while cold air (near or below freezing) will still be at ground level.

This setup means we could see precipitation fall as rain, but turn to ice as it makes contact with the roads during the morning commute.  Be prepared for potentially icy roads between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m.  There is a higher chance of a wintry mix from I-96/696 to the south, to the Ohio state line.

Any ice accumulations would be minimal, but it doesn't take much to make roads and sidewalks slippery.

**There is still a lot of uncertainty in this forecast.

This forecast is going to depend on how much moisture is in the air, and how far temperatures drop.  Hopefully, we manage to stay around 32°-33° and ice will not be an issue, but it's better to plan ahead and use caution.
