LIVONIA, Mich. (WXYZ) — For 61 years, Bates Hamburgers has been serving up burgers to metro Detroit.
Laurie Johnston’s grandparents started the burger joint, which has remained in the family throughout the years.
“We really been thankful that people are here, they thank us for being open,” said Johnston.
WE’RE OPEN: Bates Hamburgers has been in business for 61 years. The burgers remain the same, but if you go to the joint you will see new safety measures in place. One thing to look for, this new speaker to callout orders at their Livonia location. @wxyzdetroit pic.twitter.com/Eo8EM7gMrd

They have two locations, one in Livonia and another in Farmington Hills.
Right now, customers are encouraged to call in orders ahead of time before picking them up. There is a special carryout section at the Livonia location, which includes plexiglass.
“We allow one person to come in at a time and order and go back outside and wait until their order is ready,” said Johnston.
They have also installed a speaker, so people can wait in their cars and be called up when their orders are ready.
They have adjusted their hours. They are now open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
